Maui Preparatory Academy’s 11th Annual Paniolo Event was a wonderful success. The event was held on Saturday, September 9, and was a great way to welcome in a new school year. The Paniolo Event is one of Maui Prep’s premier fundraising or “friendraising” successes that is held annually.
“One of the biggest reasons for Paniolo is to bring the West Maui community to our school to enjoy our beautiful campus with their keiki,” stated PTSO President and event chair, Ma’Ann Sabino.
The funds raised at Paniolo go directly back to the students and help with annual class trips and other various field trips.
This was the first year the PTSO led the charge in organizing the event, and the time, dedication, and effort that was put in by the parent volunteers was very apparent. The teamwork in putting the event together truly exemplified Lokahi, or working together to achieve more, one of Maui Prep’s 10 Commitments to Living Aloha.
The campus was teeming with parents and children having fun beginning right at the 4:00 start time and lasting well past the 9:00 end time. The most popular booths were the bouncy castles provided by Keiki Kastles LLC, horse riding and a petting zoo by Maui Animal Farms, and Maui Laser Tag.
Food was made available from The Shave Ice Spot, the most popular food vendor, making shave ice until 9:30, Napili Farmer’s Market, 808 Grindz, Teddy’s Bigger Burgers, Fork & Salad, Nalu Grindz, Maui Banana Bread Co., El Taco Borracho, Valley Isle Kombucha and Wailemi Lemonade.
The vendor area was reminiscent of a Parisian marketplace, elegantly set-up and lit with bistro lights and a wide variety of wares. With vendors LeRu, Maui Surf Clinics, Lenoir Eyeglasses, India Hicks, Starfish Aloha, Coral Crush, Vintage Jewelry Maui, Free To Be Me Jewelry, Vintage Kantha, Young Livings, 3rd Day Nursery, Maka Sea, LuLaRoe, Alola and Barnes & Noble, it was a veritable marketplace of local, handmade and health-conscious items.
The entertainment was provided by the local talents of Glen Innes Session Band, Fred’s Garage, with special guest Darren Lee, and Maui Prep’s very own, 7AM Band.
“The games were good, the treats were good and the prizes were good,” stated one attendee. “And it was loud.” So, boy howdy, Paniolo 2017 was a rootin’, tootin’ good ole time!
