Emily Homza is a native of Richmond, Virginia, but has always been drawn to the ocean. She joined the Maui Prep ‘Ohana after teaching both third grade and kindergarten in an inner-city elementary school, where she worked with an incredibly dedicated faculty.
Her route to teaching was not always direct, as her love for cooking led her to work as a pastry chef at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. While in the beautiful mountains of Asheville, she attended Warren Wilson College and earned her Bachelor of Arts in the Humanities. Eventually, Emily realized her desire to teach young children and moved home to Richmond where she received her Masters of Teaching in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Emily is propelled by the joy of working with young children, a lifelong love of learning, and the unique and exciting challenges that each school year brings. The longer she serves as an educator, the more she realizes how much the children teach her.
When she’s not in the classroom, you can find Emily at the beach, dancing hula, in the kitchen, spending time with her family, watching baseball, reading, drawing and painting, or enjoying all kinds of interesting music.
