Born and raised on the beaches of Santa Barbara, California, First Grade Teacher Sarah Risser already feels right at home on the island of Maui. Almost a decade ago Sarah traded the beach for the mountains when she moved to Seattle to pursue an education in academics. She attended Seattle Pacific University where she played four years of collegiate volleyball as a Falcon, and earned her teaching certificate in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Health and Fitness. She had always dreamed of the island lifestyle and feels fortunate to have become a part of the amazing, and welcoming, Maui Prep ‘ohana.
As an undergraduate at Seattle Pacific University, Sarah mastered her role as an educator, demonstrating excellence in the delivery of instruction, the use of technology to support learning, and the ability to meet the diverse needs of students. She also succeeded in performing as a student-athlete during her volleyball career at SPU. This important time in her life has enabled her to balance the role as both teacher and coach as she coaches Maui Prep’s varsity girls’ volleyball team. Following her graduation from SPU, Sarah went on to teach kindergarten for four years at a school in the greater Seattle area, where her love for teaching continued to flourish. Sarah’s main desire as an educator is to cultivate a life-long love of learning in her students while developing a strong character.
Sarah has discovered she has a passion for travel and adventure and is constantly looking for new experiences that allow her to explore. She dreams of traveling to every continent someday! From the mountains to the sea, Sarah hopes to become familiar with all aspects of adventure that Maui has to offer.
