2nd place team finish

Maui Prep girls cross-country team with their 2nd place trophy.

Congratulations to the girls’ cross country team for placing second among Division two schools at the November 1 HHSAA State Cross-Country meet held on Oahu. Each athlete ran a great race and Maui Prep’s own MIL champion, Sophia Johnston (so.), finished 14th out of the 199 qualifiers with a time of 19:44:95.  Both Corey Patton-Losner (fr.) and Alexa Narayan (so.) placed in the top 100.  Other scorers contributing to the team effort were Jessica Kingwell (so.) and Jamie Advincula (jr.).  The second place finish earns its spot in school history as it is the first time Maui Prep has placed as a team at the State Championships.

The lone Maui Prep qualifier in the boys’ race was Niels Jeske (jr.), beat his state qualifying time with a time of 18:55.82.  He placed 100th out of 200 runners.

The team’s two coaches, Dennis Nakamura and Keenan Reader, were able to be in Oahu to support the team.  They dedicated many hours training (and running with) the cross-county athletes this season; and it is rewarding to see all the hard work pay off.  Way to go Pueo!  Click here for more photos.
