Last week the Maui Prep Girls’ Volleyball team played against Haleakala Waldorf and won their third match. This is the most successful season the Pueo Wahine has had in the history of Maui Prep volleyball.

“Our team has shown a marked improvement this year and we’re so excited at the potential and quality of the players coming through our Middle School and JV system,” says Coach Risser. “These girls are excited to play and their success only fuels their drive to get better.”

Danielle Bergson, Cassidy Otto, and Sarah Golestani were celebrated in the traditional Senior Night at the end of their last home game. Golestani has played middle hitter and has been a consistent blocking and serving presence for the Pueo Wahine. Bergson has fulfilled her role as setter, arguably the most difficult position on the volleyball court, admirably; not only has she played within the Maui Prep volleyball program she has also dedicated numerous hours over the years to various indoor and beach club systems. Otto is one of the most exciting and dynamic players to watch on the court, her height and jumping ability are key factors in her role as outside hitter.  She serves as one of the top two hitters for this year’s team and will likely be remembered as having one of the top kill efficiencies in Pueo history to date.

“These three girls have been leaders on and off the court for the past several years,” Athletic Director, Keenan Reader commented. “It is not a coincidence that the varsity team is having the most successful season yet given the roles these girls have played on the team.”

The Pueo Wahine are fighting for optimal positioning going into playoffs, their final playoff ranking will be determined in their two last regular season games which takes place on Lanai this Friday and Saturday.  Victory against the Lanai Pine Lasses will ensure a 4th place finish in the regular season in MIL Division 2 volleyball.
