Arts
Visual Arts: The arts are basic to learning. A comprehensive art curriculum teaches students to think critically, solve problems, make decisions, imagine, create, express, develop self-discipline, work cooperative, and appreciate differences. Maui Prep believes that all students, regardless of background, talents, or abilities, can benefit from exposure to the arts.
Access to arts instruction proceeds in an age appropriate curriculum from preschool to the high school level. Preschool students receive an additional 30 minutes of arts instruction per week with a certified arts specialist. At the elementary level (K-5) every students receives 40 minutes of arts instruction per week. In the middle school, students continue instruction in art with the sixth grade class meeting four days a week for one trimester. Visual art is available to the seventh and eighth grade classes as a trimester elective. In upper school, students are offered electives or specialized course work which allows them to study an artistic discipline in greater depth. AP 2D Studio Art is available to advanced Junior and Senior Art students, allowing them the opportunity to earn college credits for their course work. In addition, Maui Prep sponsors a National Art Honor Society chapter for qualifying students.

Performing Arts: Maui Preparatory Academy offers a performing arts program to students in grades Pre-K through High School. This program includes music, drama, and dance. In the Preschool and Lower School, it is part of the curriculum and each and every student learns basic music theory, musicianship, expression, movement, and live performance. As an extra-curricular activity, Maui Prep produces an annual full scale musical production to students in grades 2-5 which includes an audition. Our students participate in island-wide programs like Na Mele O Maui, which is an annual song competition broken down into grade divisions. Maui Prep produces an annual May Day program which consists of performances of cultural song and dance from each grade level, as well as our Arts Night which is a live showcase of the classroom work.
In our Middle and Upper School, performing arts is offered as an elective course in the arts of which one full year credit is required for graduation. Classes include exploratory music classes and performance-based music classes such as our pop/rock band which also serves as an ambassador for our school. Maui Prep also produces an annual full scale musical production open to middle and upper school students as part of the curriculum. Performance venues include The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua and the `Ulalena Theatre.
