Pamela Reader, Pre-School Director Lower School Principal

Pamela Reader brings a wealth of experience to the role of Principal of Maui Prep’s Lower School and Pre-School Director. Pam recently earned a Masters in Educational Administration from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. Along with this degree, Pam also holds a Masters of Science in Communications Disorders and Sciences from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff and a Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology and Audiology from State University of New York at Geneseo. Pam is a nationally certified Speech-Language Pathologist with a stellar reputation in her field. She has designed professional development programs for teachers, language specialists, and parents in Hawai`i. Before joining the Maui Prep ‘Ohana, she worked for the Department of Education in the Maui District, focusing on the remediation of pre-school through fifth-grade students with a variety of communication delays and disorders. Pam’s success in remediation of students with mild to severe developmental delays gives us an expert on staff who will guide our early literacy process, which is paramount to the advancement of our students throughout their years at Maui Prep—and beyond.

Pam has also developed a private practice on Maui, working closely with families of children with various speech and language needs; she incorporates techniques for improved communication in the home setting and works directly with children to improve their speech and language skills, as well as providing counseling and support to parents. She also provides teacher support for implementing speech improvement in the classroom at various grade levels (with a focus on the pre-school population), while planning and implementing Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and performing comprehensive speech and language diagnostic evaluations.

Pamela and her husband, Keenan, a teacher at Maui Prep, have two young daughters, Kaia Mei and Ellie Nalani. In her spare time, Pam enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, hiking, painting, making jewelry, reading, and yoga.
