Hallie Sykes
Hallie Sykes, Fifth Grade Teacher
Hallie was born and raised in Irvine, California. Growing up in a large family of educators, she developed her love of learning early in life, rarely going anywhere without a book in her hand. While it was only natural for Hallie to become a teacher, she explored many other opportunities along the way.
Hallie earned her B.A. in Theatre Arts, Performance from California State University, Long Beach. After graduating, she moved to New York City where she worked in investment banking. Realizing that she wasn’t cut out for the cold, Hallie moved to Maui and then spent time traveling throughout Thailand and Indonesia. She returned home from her travels inspired to pursue her teaching credential and earned her Elementary Education Post-Baccalaureate from Western Governors University. In 2008, Hallie began substitute teaching at Maui Prep. She has also worked as a long term sub for both the second grade and the middle school. Having been fortunate enough to learn from many outstanding teachers in her life, Hallie is passionate about creating a safe, supportive and positive learning environment in order to encourage her students to become lifelong, independent learners.
Outside of the classroom, Hallie enjoys spending time with family and friends, going to the beach, watching football, and playing golf with her husband, Daniel. She still rarely goes anywhere without a book in her hand.
