College Prep

There are few places on earth as idyllic as Maui, the second largest island in the Hawaiian archipelago. With the stunning backdrop of mountains and sea, tropical rainforests, sandy beaches, and ocean reefs, Maui Preparatory Academy provides its students with an incredibly rich and rewarding environment for college preparation and life beyond college.

At Maui Prep, students can:

  • Explore the galaxy from atop the 3,000-meter dormant volcano Haleakala
  • Study the ecosystems of coral reefs in Honolua Bay
  • Assess the impact of globalization on local cultures
  • Examine the social organization and communications of humpback whales
  • Interpret and express a culture’s values through literature, and the visual and performing arts
  • Discover new ways of capturing energy from the sun, wind, and water in order to reduce dependence on fossil fuels

The Maui Prep college preparatory experience empowers students to leverage Maui’s local and natural resources to pursue their academic passions.

Maui Prep is fully accredited by the Hawaii Association of Independent Schools (HAIS) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). With our commitment to best practices in preparing students to engage the challenges of the 21st century, Maui Prep was recognized as one of Hawaii’s most successful Schools of the Future, earning significant grants from the Hawaii Community Foundation for five years in a row totaling in excess of $250,000.

Maui Prep’s small class sizes enable significant individualized attention for each student in a nurturing and supportive environment. Maui Prep’s teachers are masters of their disciplines (over 75% with advanced degrees), but not afraid to innovate or use creative strategies to engage students in their studies and motivate them to excel. They are passionate about teaching and seek opportunities to expand their own knowledge and experience. They set the bar high for their students, teaching the essential skills to be successful academically, but are also sensitive to different learning styles inherent in their students. Most importantly, they have that special knack for connecting with teenagers.

Maui prep offers a full array of College Board Advanced Placement (AP) classes in the subject areas of English, History, Mathematics and the Sciences. Maui Prep students have been recognized for their achievements in several local and state competitions including in mathematics, science, technology, and the arts.

When I retired as Chair of the Modern Language Department at the University of Northern Iowa Laboratory School (USA), as a Webmaster I developed websites for 24 different languages for students and their instructors. I ask that you pass the information below on to your language department and to be shared with students and staff.
The Master Homepage for the 24 different languages is:

The Best French Websites ( has had over 2 million page visits. My French page has a link specifically designed for younger students that I have used for summer school classes ( coupled with an electronic device called Smartboard.

To date, Best Spanish Websites ( has had nearly five million page visits and rates near the top by Google and most search engines. Another site called Spanish sites for children is increasingly popular.

A site for learning English called TESOL/ESL is featured on the Master Homepage and you will also note: 140 enjoyable language learning activities for your students on all levels of instruction. It is learning games and fun activities for the language classroom.

I thank you for sharing and I hope to hear back from you.
