Maui Prep creates a residential home environment that supports the intellectual and emotional development of our students. Our exceptional educators and residential parents care for students as their own and guide their orientation and integration into Maui Prep community life. New students at Maui Prep quickly become a part of our ‘ohana (family) and build great life-long friendships.
Our teachers and residential parents are available at all times to provide students with supervision and support, whether it is academic or personal. Our residential accommodations ensure proper and appropriate separation of male and female students. Our classrooms, meeting, and dining facilities are coeducational.
The residential facility is located 2.7 miles (4.35 kilometers) and about a 7-minute drive from Maui Prep’s academic campus. It is located on Lower Honoapiilani Road, with convenient access to public transportation, parks, beaches, and shopping. The facility is ideal for student apartment-style living. It is secured by perimeter fencing with controlled gate access. It has private access to a beach.
Three to four students reside in each apartment. Each apartment comes equipped with its own bathroom, kitchenette, and private balcony. All students are provisioned with a bed, desk, and closet or armoire. There is additional storage space on the property for beach equipment, surf and paddleboards, suitcases, and other personal items.
The director of residential life resides in the penthouse of the facility. And, one-two other residential faculty reside in the facility. Furthermore, there are other faculty members who provide support and enrichment in the residential life program.
Students gather at “the nest” – the penthouse apartment – for dinner each school night. In this same area, there is at least one flat screen television and other furnishings for group activities and meetings.
The school makes available shuttle service to school in the mornings before school starts and back to the residential facility in the afternoons, following after school activities and/or athletics. Students may also use public transportation to reach Napili Plaza, which is then just a short walk to school. Though continental breakfast is provided each school morning, some students may choose to stop at Napili Plaza on the way to school to visit a supermarket or café.
Students are assigned chores to help maintain the residential facility. Students are responsible for doing their laundry (there are three washers and dryers at the facility), including their linens. Home cleaning service is provided to each student apartment once a week, mostly assisting students in the cleaning of bathrooms and kitchen areas.
Dorm faculty members supervise study hours each school night and also collaborate with student residents to organize weekend activities. When not attending classes, participating in school sports, attending school functions, or studying, residential students have ample opportunities to enjoy all that Maui has to offer, including area beaches to swim, snorkel, surf, or paddleboard, hiking trails, local farmers’ markets, and shopping malls.
