Pueo Pilot Recipient Grateful for Opportunities

Kysha Altura, a member of the class of 2018, has shown incredible dedication and commitment to both her academics and her athletics. For those of you who think the commute from south Lahaina or Launiupoko is so far, this honors student commutes from Paia every day…this is on top of regular morning and afternoon swim practices. With the support of her family, her friends and teachers at Maui Prep, and her Pueo swim coach Mike Ritter, this individual is a:

  • 7x Maui Interscholastic League individual champion

  • 2x state champion

  • 3x MIL Swimmer of the Year

  • Maui County all-time record holder in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle

  • She helped lead the Pueo girls swim team to a second place finish at the recent MIL Championships.

  • She is also the recipient of a full-ride scholarship to Fordham University.

There is no doubt that Maui Prep has been a positive influence on this young woman’s life, but also recognize that she has left her fingerprints all over Maui Prep as well. Besides her leadership in the pool, she leads with great influence in the classroom, within student government, and even in our yearbook.  If you are a parent of a Maui Prep student, whether your child knows it or not, they have been positively impacted by this individual. She does all this with great commitment, class, humility, a healthy dose of sass, and just the right amount of irreverence…in short, she is exactly the type of student we hope all Maui Prep students strive to be. She is the type of kid you want around your child. She is the type of kid who takes the opportunity to attend Maui Prep and runs with it.
