Maui Prep embraces the value of community service, both within our school ohana and in the larger community as well. Students engage in service projects as a means of giving back to the community that has supported them in so many ways. While students of all ages are encouraged to participate in community service events, Maui Prep requires all Middle and Upper School students to complete a minimum of 10 and 25 hours, respectively, of service each academic year. While the school provides venues to complete community service, students are encouraged to find an area of need that they are committed to and passionate about in order to deepen their learning process.
Maui Prep students have participated in a wide variety of community service projects that have included planting native trees, protecting native bird habitats, working with animals at the Maui Humane Society, volunteering at the Maui Marathon, participating in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, and organizing Christmas gift drives for underprivileged families in the west Maui community. As students become more and more engaged in their community service activities and begin to see the real difference they can make in the world, many of them go on to complete double their required number of hours over the course of the school year.
