On September 15, 2012, the Lower School team traveled to Oahu to attend “The Sisters” conference. This was thrilling for the team because the Sisters, Gail Boushey and Joan Moser, are the creators of the Daily 5 and the Literacy Cafe, the Lower School’s new literacy program. This was the first time they have ever presented in the State of Hawaii.
The Lower School team presented this new program to the Lower School parents at Back to School night. Mrs. Reader and all the Lower School teachers shared this PowerPoint, The Daily 5 and the Literacy Cafe, during the evening. The parents saw the excitement the Lower School teachers have about reading and launching this program.
The Daily 5 is a student-driven management structure designed to fully engage students in activities that support literacy~ reading and writing. The Literacy Cafe is a guide and system to focus instruction, help students set reading and behavior goals, and monitor their progress. Both are based on literacy learning and motivation and brain research. For more information, ask Mrs. Reader or any of the Lower School teachers, check out the PowerPoint above, or go to www.the2sisters.com.
