The year of living Aloha!

The year of living Aloha!

Maui Preparatory Academy has a committed and dedicated faculty. Like most schools, the faculty is required to be back to school the week before the first students arrive on campus to begin to plan and prepare for the new school year ahead. This year was no exception, and one of the more outstanding results out of the week was the faculty and staff’s discussion of “Aloha.”  As an extension of that conversation, the faculty and staff were also introduced to “Maui Prep’s 10 Commitments to Living Aloha.”  Some of these statements and concepts are familiar as they are taken from the school’s core values.  The 10 commitments are as follows:

Mahalo: Living with gratitude

Pono: Exemplifying the highest moral and ethical behavior

Kuleana: Upholding my responsibilities

Mālama´Āina: Promoting environmental stewardship

Kina’ole: Always doing the right thing

Ho‘ohanohano: Accepting and appreciating the differences of others

‘Imi Ola: Pursuing excellence

Lokahi: Working together to achieve more

Ho‘omau: Seeking and appreciating challenges

‘Ike Loa: Embracing lifelong learning

These are the 10 Commitments to Living Aloha that Maui Prep will be challenging their students to embrace and embody. Whether it is a difficult math test, standing up for a fellow classmate, or showing sportsmanship in the yearly Pueo Challenge, the school is asking each student to commit to a “Year of Living Aloha.”
