Visual and Fine Arts
Maui Prep’s Visual and Fine Arts program is a vertically aligned, standards-based K–12 curriculum that:
  • provides students with opportunities for self-expression, creativity, and artistic skill development
  • encourages technical growth and imaginative exploration through a variety of media and techniques
  • nurtures creative thinking, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts
The program’s mission is to cultivate thoughtful artists and visually literate individuals—through an arts education that reflects Maui Prep’s values and the unique culture of the West Maui community.

  • Lower School Visual Arts

    In the Lower School, students build foundational skills through inquiry-based learning in painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, and ceramics.
  • Middle School Visual Arts

    Middle School students participate in quarter-long exploratory courses that further develop skills in drawing, painting, collage, and design using a variety of materials and approaches.
  • Upper School Visual Arts Pathway

    In the Upper School, students may choose from a range of electives beginning with Art Foundations, where they explore diverse artists, processes, and materials such as printmaking and two- and three-dimensional design.

    AP Studio Art 2-D
    AP Studio Art 2-D is an advanced course focused on developing students’ skills in two-dimensional design and visual expression. Through sustained investigation and a variety of media—including drawing, painting, printmaking, and digital work—students create a portfolio demonstrating technical proficiency, creativity, and personal voice. The course emphasizes both concept development and mastery of design principles in preparation for the AP portfolio submission.

  • Upper School Advanced Performing Arts Pathway

    THEATER STUDIES: Students master advanced acting, directing, and dramaturgy, producing original works and leading ensembles in alignment with NCAS standards for creative, analytical, and performance excellence.
    DANCE: Students excel in contemporary technique, choreography, and critical analysis, creating and presenting original works while meeting rigorous NCAS benchmarks for artistry and leadership.
    MUSIC: Students achieve high-level performance, composition, and musicology, showcasing their creative and technical mastery through capstone projects as outlined by NCAS standards.
  • Upper School Technical Theater and Design Pathway

    Lighting & Set Design
    Students collaboratively design, build, and illuminate stage environments that enhance each performance, documenting their creative process and results in a professional portfolio.

    Stage Management
    Students lead backstage operations, scheduling, and cue calling for productions, compiling detailed documentation and reflections in their portfolio.

    Marketing/Publicity
    Students design and execute promotional campaigns including merchandise, social media and other for school shows, curating all materials and outcomes in a comprehensive portfolio.

  • Design Technology and Engineering

    Though technology and tools change, the need for critical-thinking, problem-solving, growth mindset, and collaboration do not. Maui Prep's Graham Center and Narayan Design Lab provide a laboratory for students to develop confidence in applying technology and design for practical purposes.

  • The Graham Center

    The Graham Center houses the technology program at Maui Prep, serving students in all grades. Students learn general technology tools and skills to use throughout their school career as well as more specialized software and hardware, including:
    • 3D Modeling & Printing
    • Game Design and Coding
    • Robotics Building and Programming
    • Graphic and Architectural Design Tools
    • Audio and Video Engineering
  • Narayan Design Lab

    The Narayan Design Lab is a multi-purpose classroom space that serves as a wet-lab science classroom and an engineering fabrication studio. Educational goals include:
    • Electrical engineering: circuitry design, coding
    • Coding: C++ coding language for Arduino function
    • Fabrication: Student design/build projects with electronics, wood, and metals. Laser cutter, 3D printer, etc.
    • Design challenges: bridges, vehicles, structures, and other challenges for students to create solutions to real-world engineering challenges
  • Chin Studio at the Bozich Center

    The Chin Studio is a multi-purpose room primarily used as a dance studio in the Bozich Center.  The room features wall-to-wall mirrors, portable ballet barres, and a luxury sprung dance floor. The room also serves as a treatment and rehab center for the Maui Prep Athletic Training Department.
