Maui Prep Kicks Off New School Year with Annual GLU Day
Maui Preparatory Academy officially launched the 2025-2026 school year with its annual GLU Day, a spirited kick-off event designed to foster community and friendly competition among middle and upper school students. GLU, which stands for "Good Luck Upper," began with a series of morning activities before culminating in the highly anticipated Pueo Challenge.
The day started with the upper school students heading to DT Fleming's beach for a tradition-rich swim test and class competitions on the sand. Simultaneously, the middle school students engaged in a series of spirited games and activities at the Bozich Center, guided by their advisors.
Following the morning events, all students from grades 6 through 12, along with a dedicated faculty team, returned to campus for the main event: the Pueo Challenge. This 11-course relay race tested both academic and physical prowess. Teams navigated through a gauntlet of unique challenges, including the three-legged race, Dizzy Basketball, and the Reverse Wheelbarrow.
The race concluded with the final "Pyramid and Banana and Sprite" event, where six students formed a human pyramid, and the capstone student had to eat a banana and chug a can of Sprite that had served as the race baton.
In a thrilling finish, the Class of 2027 emerged victorious, showcasing exceptional teamwork and determination. The day also saw a surprise performance from the upstart faculty team, who made it to the finals for the first time in a decade, proving that the spirit of competition is alive and well among both students and staff.
GLU Day 2025 was a resounding success, setting a positive and energetic tone for the academic year ahead.
