Honoring a Legacy: The 4th Annual Rob Wheeler Day

The Maui Prep campus transformed into a place of sweet remembrance this past Friday, April 17, as we gathered for the 4th annual Rob Wheeler Day.
This yearly tradition serves as a vibrant tribute to a man who was a seminal member of our 'ohana, a dedicated Maui Prep Booster, and the beloved father of Caden '22 and Bodi '28. Though we continue to feel the profound loss of Rob since his passing in 2022, his spirit remains a guiding light for our faculty, students, and the entire Lahaina community.

Rob was famously known as the culinary heart behind the Iron Imu BBQ, where he proved daily that his true love language was a combination of excellent food and a giant, welcoming hug for everyone he encountered. His commitment to the school was boundless, from his staunch support of our hardworking faculty to his creative vision in founding the original Bowl-a-Thon at Shoemaker Field. To keep his joyful memory alive, Dr. John James continued the tradition of honoring Rob’s birthday by providing ice cream treats to our Middle and Upper School students, accompanied by thoughtful words reflecting on Rob’s enduring impact.

As we look toward the future, we remain dedicated to the philosophy of LIVE.LIFE.R.A.W. This movement serves as a living homage to Rob’s radical approach to life and his unwavering desire to positively influence the lives of children. While we will never truly stop missing our "Uncle Rob," we choose to honor him by moving forward with gratitude and a determination to find joy in every moment. We carry his memory in our hearts, committed to living as boldly and kindly as he did.
