On the evening of Thursday, December 4, 2025, Kumu Wilmont hosted a beautiful and meaningful Hī‘uwai ceremony at Baby Beach, bringing together members of the 'ohana under the light of a rare celestial event.
The ceremony coincided with the Cold Moon, which was also the last Supermoon of 2025. Appearing larger and brighter due to its proximity to Earth, this final full moon of the year traditionally symbolizes a time for reflection and renewal as it marks the coldest part of the winter season.
The Hī‘uwai ceremony is a traditional Hawaiian ocean purification ritual for cleansing the mind, body, and spirit, often performed to release burdens and welcome renewal, symbolizing rebirth and spiritual connection.
As Kumu Kahaiali'i's melodious chant filled the cool night air, the group waded out into the water, bathed in the glow of the Supermoon, participating in this powerful moment of cultural wellness and connection to nature.
Mahalo nui loa to Kumu Wilmont and Kumu Kahaiali'i for sharing this profound tradition with our community.
