Maui Prep Announces Ho'ike 2026: A Cultural Journey of Awakening and Aloha

Maui Preparatory Academy is proud to present Hōʻike 2026, a vibrant celebration of Hawaiian culture, on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Formerly known as May Day, this evening presentation has evolved into a powerful platform for students to showcase Hawai‘is cultural identity and belonging through mele (song), hula, and ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language). The evening will feature beautiful costumes, floral arrangements, and storytelling led by Kumu Wilmont Kahaiali’i, Nalani Brovelli, Kainoa Lum, and Kehau Ka'auwai.

This year’s theme, “E Ala e – E Hoʻāla i ke Aloha, E Hoʻomau i ka ʻIke” (Awaken – Awaken Aloha, Perpetuate Knowledge), draws inspiration from the traditional oli (chant) “E Ala e”. The program reflects a progression of student growth: from the "Awakening" of the lower schoolers to the "Responsibility and Leadership" shown by the middle schoolers and the 8th-grade court.

Event Highlights:
  • Educational Progression: Performances range from foundational language chants like Piʻapa and ʻŌpae ē to the pride and stewardship of Kū Haʻaheo.
  • 8th Grade Court: The graduating class will embody the theme of guardianship through the ʻAha Pueo o Alaeloa.
The community is invited to join this special presentation. Families and guests are encouraged to arrive early, as performing students must be in their classrooms by 4:00 PM.
