From intimate, tear-filled goodbyes to a record-breaking haul of academic accolades, the evening was steeped in community, nostalgia, and eyes turned towards a brilliant future.

 

Before the public pomp and circumstance began, the Class of 2026 gathered privately with their teachers for one of Maui Prep’s most cherished traditions: the intimate teacher-student lei ceremony.

 

In this quiet sanctuary, the deep bonds forged over years of mentorship took center stage. Each graduate received a personalized tribute from an educator who had guided them along their journey. The tributes were deeply personal, blending fond memories with words of encouragement. As laughter echoed and tears of joy fell around the room, it became profoundly clear that at Maui Prep, education is as much about the heart as it is about the mind.

 

Promptly at 6:00 PM, the atmosphere shifted from quiet reflection to grand celebration. The graduates began their processional, crossing the beautiful campus one final time to take the stage.

 

Ditching the traditional, rigid chords of “Pomp and Circumstance,” the class opted for a soundtrack that mirrored their own journey: a playlist of nostalgic tunes headlined by Stevie Nicks’ iconic “Landslide.” As the lyrics about growth and changing seasons drifted over the crowd, there wasn’t a dry eye on the quad.

 

Head of School Dr. Miguel Solis kicked off the evening with a warm welcome, setting a tone of immense pride and gratitude. The commencement speakers, senior class president Leah Burns, Salutatorian Anna Nguyen, Valedictorian Layla Merrill and faculty commencement speaker Mrs. Jessica Lucia struck a perfect balance, weaving together humorous anecdotes, timeless advice, and gentle admonitions for the road ahead, eliciting waves of laughter and sentimental tears from parents and friends alike.

 

The pinnacle of the evening arrived as Mr. Ryan Kirkham called each graduate forward. One by one, the seniors stepped up to receive their diplomas, pause for a milestone photograph, and share a warm embrace, officially transitioning from students to Maui Prep’s newest alumni.

 

The formalities concluded, the new graduates were dismissed from the stage and immediately engulfed by a waiting crowd of family, friends, and well-wishers. In true island fashion, they were draped in a vibrant sea of lei of every medium, color, and size imaginable. Within minutes, many of the graduates were buried so deep in floral affection they were virtually unrecognizable—an island tradition for a momentous occasion.
