Rain or Shine: The 2026 Financial Aid Benefit

The 2026 Financial Aid Benefit was more than just a celebration; it was a fulfillment of a promise made in the wake of the fires.
When other schools were forced to close their doors, Maui Prep stepped forward to welcome displaced students, pledging to support those who chose to make this campus their academic home during a time of immense uncertainty.

Our small Westside community relies heavily on the unwavering support of parents, local businesses, and neighbors who are proud to call Lahaina home. Without the incredible generosity shown at events like this, the Maui Prep experience might remain out of reach for many families. By "raising the paddle," our donors are directly investing in the resilience and future of Lahaina’s youth.

On February 21, the Maui Prep campus transformed into a vibrant hub of philanthropy and celebration. Despite a persistent downpour, the spirit of the evening remained undampened as guests gathered safely under a grand tent, framed by the spectacular backdrop of the Pacific Ocean and Molokai. The atmosphere was immediately set by Brian Richard (parent of Noah '26 and Tristan '29) and Kapena Kaopuiki (parent of Cambria '35 and Terina '27), who kept the crowd spirited with expertly crafted signature cocktails.

As the evening progressed, the silent auction became a focal point of high-energy competition. Bids flew in for an array of restaurant gift cards, luxury hotel stays, exclusive island excursions, unique professional services, and fine jewelry. Every dollar raised through these friendly bidding wars was dedicated directly to the school’s financial aid program, ensuring a Maui Prep education remains accessible to all deserving students.

Magic, Music, and Meaningful Moments

The night was filled with wonder, thanks in part to magician David Kuraya. Having honed his craft alongside Warren Gibson (parent of Griffin '20) at the famed Warren & Annabelle’s, Kuraya moved through the crowd performing mind-bending sleight of hand that left guests both baffled and delighted. Amidst the entertainment, Food for Soul provided a decadent spread featuring prime rib, chicken marsala, and shrimp pasta.

Principal Ryan Kirkham served as the evening's host, proudly highlighting the many accolades of our student body. The heart of the event, however, lay in the voices of the students themselves. The audience was moved by performances and testimonials from Dani Nielson '33, Abigail Ankney '26, and Anna Nguyen '26. Adding to the emotional weight of the night, Mrs. Jessica Lucia shared a collection of student poetry, including a surprise submission by Kingston Seamster '28 that moved his parents—and many in the audience—to tears.

A Community Raising the Paddle

The energy reached a fever pitch during the live auction, where Surfer Joe the Auctioneer brought a unique blend of fun and competitiveness to the stage. His playful banter sparked spirited bidding for private chef’s dinners and "bucket list" vacations. The most impactful moment arrived at the end of the night during the "Raise the Paddle" segment, where the community showed overwhelming support to provide vital financial aid resources for our students.

To close out the festivities, DJ Ron took over the decks, proving that the Lower School quad makes an excellent dance floor for adults. We extend a heartfelt thank you to our Advancement team and the Benefit Committee—Stephanie Kirkham, Jenny Bennett, Alison Masserman, Jacki Seamster, Alexis Merrill, and Janelle Reed—for their tireless work in making this night a resounding success.
