Maui Prep Surfing Continues Its Winning "Waves" at NSSA Champs at Dana Point
Maui Preparatory Academy surfers delivered an impressive performance at the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) 2026 National Interscholastic Championships, held June 12–14 at Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point, California.
Competing against some of the nation's strongest scholastic surf programs from California, Florida, and New Jersey, Maui Prep earned a 5th-place overall team finish in the Varsity High School Division among a field of 85 athletes.
Leading the way for Maui Prep was senior Zolten Poulsen, who secured an outstanding 2nd-place individual finish, showcasing consistency and competitive excellence throughout the championship event.
The success continued in the Middle School Division, where Maui Preparatory Academy also captured a 5th-place overall team finish against top teams from California and Florida in a field of 57 athletes.
Maui Prep's middle school team was represented by just two athletes, making their accomplishments even more impressive. Kona Yamada earned a 3rd-place individual finish, while Kalli Sprenger showcased her versatility by capturing 2nd place in Longboard and 4th place in Shortboard competition. Their standout performances helped propel Maui Preparatory Academy to a 5th-place overall team finish against much larger programs from across the country.
The results highlight the strength and depth of Maui Preparatory Academy's surf program, as student-athletes from Maui successfully competed against the nation's best scholastic surfers on one of surfing's biggest interscholastic stages.
